Gary, the wonder bike

My most amazing friend, Julie, is training for a 100-mile bike race. I'm grateful she filled me in on the details because it inspired me to grab Luke and take our bikes out for a wonderful ride around town. It's doubtful I would have made that choice if Julie wasn't such a great role model!

A plethora of Students of the Week

It was Luke's turn to be Student of the Week (for perseverence) and we went up the hill to attend the award assembly. At least 80 kids ended up on stage with certificates and special pins. I'm grateful for all of the teachers at his school, but especially for Principal Rhees. She puts the "pal" back into principal.

May 4

The crunched front end of the neighbor's van

I'm not sure if it's considered correct form to be grateful that you're not in your neighbor's shoes, but tonight I am grateful that the rash of front-ender-fender-benders that seems to have struck our circle of friends and neighbors has not included us.

May 3

California poppy bloom

I'm grateful for the colorful sight of all the lovely blooms around town. This particular colored bit of joy is from my mother's garden.

May 2

Rivet detail from my new jeans

Today I was grateful for my little sister's fabulously quick weight loss and thus her generosity in handing down (up?) her castoffs. I love fitting back into jeans!

May 1

Rare sight - Clean desk

Today I actually had the time to dig my way through the various piles on and around my desk and organize! I'm grateful that I found everything I was looking for (and many things I hadn't known were lost) and have started the month of May in relative control.

April 30

Sunday afternoon spent working on the Big 6

Luke spent all afternoon working on his final project for the Big6. His subject was Himalayans, and his presentation this Thursday will include the mighty Earl.

I'm grateful for his sense of responsibility and his stick-to-it-iveness. Way to go, Luke!
